I'm sticking to my statement that the cam profiles that are best for turbo use are not the same as for all motor use. It's just basic engine theory, you can argue it all you want. I'm sure you can make big power with N/A cams and a turbo, but given turbo cams with the same lift specs (and proper duration and overlap for a turbo setup) and you're going to make more, along with better efficiency.. You can make good power with any cam and a turbo, but you're going to make more power from a turbo grind. That's why turning up the boost 1 or 2 PSI is still the cheapest thing to do. Power is power, and whether you make the same amount at 10 PSI with stock cams or 8 PSI with ITR/CTR cams doesn't matter. You're still putting the same stress on the engine for the given amount of power output.

I'm a little puzzled that you'd say the same cam profiles are good for both, it's not true..

Stock ITR/CTR cams probably aren't aggressive enough to matter one way or another.

On a sub 300 hp turbo car, you won't even notice a difference from a gsr cam or itr/ctr.

You didn't read my statement.

I said R cams on a boosted motor will increase power over a stock b16/gsr cam. True statement, been there, done it several times, here is someone else we all know who has done it. http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=704660

Obviously turbo designed cams will outperform a NA cam. Nobody is arguing with you. The OG poster asked what cams he could use. A very cheap option is a set of R cams.

Damn it, I forgot to log James out....the above comment was from me.

Here is another example, small gain, quicker spool, room to grow as you build the motor http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1877526

Good conversation here

I think we all get too caught up in peak HP numbers, and forget about midrange power. The middle of that dyno graph is what gets you down the track quicker than the next guy.

There is so much more to cam design then lift and duration. Ramp speed is the propriatary info that makes one cam different from another. There is actually a guy on here that is selling some great turbo cams btw.

So yes, we both agree that ideal cam profiles for boosted engines are different than profiles for N/A engines.

The middle of the graph is the region you shouldn't be in if you're trying to win at the end of the track. You should be spending your time where the highest power is. You need to get through the middle to get to the good parts, and once you're there you shouldn't go back. Every millisecond you spend at less than full power is time you just wasted.

What you said is absolutely true on the street, and completely irrelevant in a drag race. The middle of the graph is where you're going to be on the street, not on the track. Unless you're sandbagging.
