Default Bouncing tach?

I drive a 91 Integra ls
. The car has a couple of problems but this one really bugs me cuz i look at it all the time. The tach bounces all around. Somtimes it will show the right rpms but only for about 2 seconds. It sucks cuz the car has a stage 4 clutch and trying to teach my girl how do drive a stick shift is really hard when the tach says seven grand when we are barely moving.

What can I do to fix this? Post here or just Pm. Thanks

Jacob

Having any misfire problems or CELs? Might be the igniter connections, that's a known problem for early Tegs with the bouncing tach..

my speed sensor is fucked up. that's why mine bounces... your car do that?
mine sensor's clips are broken so i guess it doesn't sit in there that snug and depending the temperatures outside it will work well or bounce all ridiculous.

Spray out your VSS with brake parts cleaner. thats why mine was all messed up and all it took was $3 and 5 min. of work.

yep.

if you tach is bouncing like that...a miss would be QUITE apparent. check your speed sensor...then your cluster.

I mean the does the VSS control the tach because in my EG coupe the VSS was shot and I had no Spedo. but the tach still worked fine. Now its kinda the opposite. The spedo works but the tach bounces. It doesn't matter about the temp outside it will still bounce but when I give it more gas it comes back to near the right rpms but then bounces around again. I will try to check the VSS and hope for the best. But the car does not miss fire.
