not hard at all, its just a pain in the ass. If its your 1st time plan on taking about 6-8 hours out of your day. Replace it with a metal one rather than the crappy cardboard shit is came with that most online stores sell for around $50-60. Check out DSMparts.com

The factory head gasket is cardboard which will corrode after time unlike a metal gasket and it can hold more pressure. I can't remember what year or engine off the top of my head, but I learned in one of my automotive classes that one of the mitsu. 2.0L DOHC engines had a 100% failure rate for one of its years in production.
I have a metal gasket I bought from MachV Racing about 6 months ago and it was like a factory fit.

where do you people come up with the gasket being cardboard? every one i have changed in a 4G63 was composite. the FelPro replacement has been pretty good from what i see.....

the 420A however...that fucker will blow if you look at it wrong, pouring oil out and you have to replace it with a MLS gasket, there is no other replacement option that i have seen

the main thing with putting a steel headgasket on the 4g63 is you have to get a good surface on the block and head or it wont seal right.

are you blowing metal headgaskets? and if so did you get the block milled? If you didn't the gasket prob wouldn't seal on the block side.

Do you understand what headgaskets are for?

Better he blow the headgasket than the head. It's not like its even a difficult thing to replace.
