Re: b20 142 horse?

I am trying to get a p8r head for my b20. This head has a 84mm combustion chamber and 33mm intake valves. The P8R head flowed 226 cfm stock.

The flow test concluded that the PR4 head flowed 197 cfm, the P8R head flowed 226 cfm, and the PR3 head flowed 234 cfm. All tests were done at 28" and .450" of lift.

I understand that VTEC heads are better. When it comes to flow, they get the best of both world, thus the "V"(variable) in VTEC. Would this be worth my while to build this nonVTEC head.

preliminary build plan would be BC springs and retainers, supertec VTEC valves made to fit (unless any one can find 33mm intake valves), crower 404, with a really good port, then new rocker arms and valves seals.. ect.

So basicly will I be disapointed with the gains compaired to the gains that I would be making if i tried to build a b16 head?

Jeff,

You should really consider going with a vtec head. With a good flowing exhaust setup, a vtec head, and some good cams you will make significantly more power than you are currently making. It would not be hard to get over 200. You will end up spending a bunch of money building that non vtec head and still be dissapointed with the results.

Remember a good header is key. Don't cheap out on that aspect of the build if you really want to make power.

Re: b20 142 horse?

honestly i dont see why 185 should not be attainable with pistons, cams, exhaust, intake, and a few other supporting mods with a tune.
