b-series crank pulley ?

there's alot of talk about just shaving off the ps and ac parts of the stock crank pulley's.....does this eliminate the harmonic balancer? the ctr n1 pulley only has the alt section and is a honda product....would that be a better route than shaving a stock pulley down?
