Attn: ABS emergency
i am doing this for my girlfriend.
my girl has a 2000 jeep cherokee 4x4 4.0L. she recently bought it in june of this year. she has been on the way to my house numerous times and arrived in tears because her ABS goes out of control. i have never been in the car while its happened, nor witnessed it. she says that the car will shudder really bad and the tires"bounce" almost. she says that she does not even break really hard, and it does this. i am guessing the ABS computer is messed up or something and engages the ABS at random. b/c she has told me that she will go to break normally, and the car will go crazy, and that removing her foot from the break, applying gas, does nothing, and that she has to leave her feet off the accelerator and break and let the car coast, until it stops.
what would cause this? should the ABS system be disconnected until it can be brought in a shop (if it is even brought in at all?) what should i/her do? is there anyone on here who could assist in taking a look at this? i know there are not many jeep owners, but ABS systems are standard on a lot of cars so im guessing someone has SOME experience with em. NOTE, her cars prev owner lived in delaware. as a result of the states use of SALT during the winter, a good deal of the underbody, (front axle, differential, swaybar, muffler, and other drivetrain components) has moderate amounts of rust. could this be an issue.
