Question Attention Honda Heads

I am a 17 year old new in the honda game
I recently just purchased a 2000 Honda Civic Ex coupe.
I want to boost the car, but im not sure what would be the best setup

I have asked some other honda owners, and they say to stick with Garret and stay away from Turbonetics?

What is the best setup for my car and my budget?
i have a D16y8 engine.
and a budget of 2000 for the turbo kit.

Everything is completely stock on the car.
i just want to boost it.
and i have the tools and the space in order to do the work myself.

Any suggestions?

I agree as well, you can do a ls swap with the 2g's and it will more reliable.

thanks for the advice.
i think im just gonna drive as is for awhile, make it a lil nicer, and maybe just chip it for better fuel economy.
after, ill just sell and invest in a newer Si maybe?

2003 hatch is looking like my next choice.
havent heard one thing bad on them.

Don't mess with it. If you want better gas mileage, get a geo metro. I assume you mean a "chip" from ebay that does zip for the car, don't waste your money. Use it for your daily driver and save up for the car you really want.

AS for the 2003 Si: It's a pig. It's heavy for what it is considering the engine it has (150 pounds heavier than previous model). The suspension isn't worth being a successor to the previous Si (They ditched the double wishbone for a mcpherson strut setup). Meaning it doesn't handle near as good with the cheaper setup. The annoying shifter being in the dash, but I guess that is personal preference. The engine is argueably the worst k20 honda made, mated with 5 speed with incredibly short gears without an LSD.

So if you take one and swap out the motor (or cams, head, etc), tranny, suspension and you might have a decent car. They can be made into a better car, but stock they are unloved for a reason.

Check out FJ distributors & d series.org for more ideas. Build the engine w/ some forged internals & then save up some more cash flow for boosting the car.
