Goin out on a limb here but since the heads whats changing unless for some freak reason the threads in the block would be different, i would go with the ones that match the motor the head your using is from since the length may be different. best bet is to call up arp help desk to be sure. you also dont want to use the stock torque specs with that kit. they can give you that info as well when you call. the number is 800.826.3045, they are quick to help ya out and ofcourse its free.

 

Use the Y8 head studs, part number 208-4305, the D16Z is for only D16Z's bro. There is a length difference between the two as you might have imagined.

If the studs are in the same location (which they'd usually have to be to do a head swap), always get the studs for the head you're using.

 

i tried a pair of z6 studs from a friend and all of them fit except one. i think if i get the y8 (they are smaller than z6) all wont fit except one. i was thinking i could use all the z6 studs and just use one y8 head bolt. will that work.

"I have always been told that the extra metal in the y8 head, makes up the quench area.

Its supposed to squirt the a/f mixture to the middle of the combustion chamber for more efficiency.

Its said that it also helps to suppress predetination by keeping the a/f mix away from the sides of the chamber where hotspots might develope. i believe its called a pentroof style chamber. the b18c5 head has a similar chamber. the intake runners on the y8 head are not straight. the port splitter is angled to create a swirl in the chamber for better efficiency.


Also, you can boost the Y8 no problem, but if you do pick up a Y8 I'd re-shim the oil pump or buy a high flow, because those oil pumps are really restrictive and don't give the proper lubrication under high RPM's.

You can use the Y8 head on a Z6 but the head stud issue, the upper left stud on a z6 is raised where as the y8 studs are all the same height. Meaning you would need to use 9 y8 studs, and 1 z6 stud or it will strip the threads in the block when you drive the car."

 

the y8 lookes like it has one lower. unlike the z6 that has one higher. i have both heads. the reason why i wanna use the y8 is bc my dizzy fits the y8 not the z6 unless i get a z6 dizzy.

 

call ARP. i thought usually you're supposed to use the headstuds that go with the shortblock but i'd definitely call to make sure because you don't want to screw that up .
