I own a 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport (4 door) and am looking to upgrade the alternator. I am probably going to need something with no less than 200Amps output, a dual output would be nice but, ironicaly, a dual output alternator that is also high performance seems to be nowhere to be seen. My question is this: Am I going to be able to take vitually any alternator and install it in my Jeep, or will I have to stick to those that were specifically designed for my Jeep. There are literally no alternators that I can find for a pre 2k jeep that are over 160amps I found only three above 120 and they were all at least $400...
