On a 89 5.0 would taking the smog pump off and getting a new belt hurt anything? Or should I get a new one? The bearings are going bad in the one that is on there. Oh yeah and would that make the motor drag in 3rd gear for any reason? The car might be for sale soon also, if your interested.

 

If it is going bad it will take more hp away from the engine, beacuse its harder to spin. They sell a eliminator kit for the smog pump. It uses the same belt and goes in the same spot. You will have to crimp off your pipe that goes to the exhaust when you romove it. I think the kit goes for under 100 dollars.
