Default 92 civic AC questions...

Ok i still have AC but since its hard & expensive to track down R12... Is it just better to retrofit the whole AC system w/ new parts for R134 use?! I have looked into pricing the parts through my work @ advance auto parts but if i do remember correctly that shits outrages in price for everything needed lol.

Any insight would be appreciated thanks in advance!

I keep hearing about compressors going bad cause of the mixture of r12 & 134a? Is this something to worry about or just swap the receiver/dryer, vaccum the system as best as possible & then refill w/ 134a?

Ok so to do this correctly, all i would need is to purchase is:

Compressor
drier
expansion valve
o ring gasket kit

OR

simply does anyone know a place to refill r12 around fredericksburg for a decent price.

Yea you do need to evap the r12 out. The receiver dryer needs to be replaced if the compressor has gone bad.Far as i know you dont have to replace all the stuff

And you would work where? Think im going to just swap the fittings & then vaccum the R12 out... Add 134a & oil.

its not worth in the long run to keep r12.... its not allowed to be produced anymore ( being that is kills the ozone ) so the only way to refill r12 is to find someone like bbyevo who knows where there is some sitting around...

I have done dozens of these conversions and i will say you dont need a compressor unless the compressor is going bad already...

You need the r134 conversion valves and a new receiver drier to actually do the conversion. the key is to make sure you take it somewhere than can recover and evac ( create a vacuum ) your system. Then making sure not to over fill the system because r12 and r134 have different fill specifications.

The reason compressors tend to go bad with r134 conversions if because dumb asses tried to do this at home without the proper equipment and most often over fill the system OR dont recover all the r12 and cause a mixture.

I would say take it to a shop you trust ( NOT jiffy lube or some shit like that ) and tell them you want to covert it.

Good Luck!
