Default 89 Probe. No Fuel Pressure.

Ok. I posted this on a probe site but I thought I would post it here too so I could get all the help i can. My car (89 Ford Probe. 2.2l) was not starting. It was not getting any fuel pressure. Well, a friend of mine took the car for a couple of days and looked it over. and determined that the fuel pump was still good as was the relay. But for some reason the relay was not getting a signal.

So he jumped the relay with a wire to start the car.. it started fine. but, now it drains the battery because its constantly pulling power. I can jump start the car and it runs fine. They said they put it on a tech 2 or something like that and it read there was a problem with the MAF sensor or something. But they are not sure what that has to do with it. Neither do I.

So my question is, does anyone know what is up here? or if not. how can I do this so the battery stops dying. Someone told me to run a toggle switch from that jumped wire. Can I do that?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys.

toggle switch will work but you should find the actual problem and fix that

most likely the old circuitry of those cars has gone bad.... wire up a manual relay for the fuel pump, that powers up with an ignition wire.... quick and easy fix.

been around these cars for FOREVER

I would wire a relay staight to the battery with the switch signal coming from a source that is twelve volt when the ignition is on....as stated above. I did this when I upgraged the fuel pump on my 91 mx6 (same engine +turbo) The stock wiring is small and only gave 9 volts tothe pump. I also have a manual if you have any questions.

Also...there is fuel pump jumper connector on the firewall on the driver's side. It's a loose two wire connector.
