Default 4th gear in s1 tranny

bought an 89 hatch last night, drove it home, drove great, only to have 4th gear go bye bye today. i've never dropped/torn apart/replaced a tranny before. would it be easier to rebuild or just to replace? anyone care to help?

It'd be easier to buy a new tranny, unless you have experience in rebuilding them. As far as which way would be the cheapest I don't have a clue.

judging by how expensive honda trannies are (used), I'd venture to say go buy a new one. trannies aren't too difficult to swap out if you have tools.
