I use Valvoline 75w-90 in the tranny. Pick whatever brand you want, it's all in how much you want to spend. Fill the tranny from the shifter hole, it's easier. I hate gear oil.

Jack the rear up and spin the tires. If it is fairly easy to spin and they spin in opposite directions you have an open diff. If its hard to spin and the tires go in the same direction its a VLSD.
