2003 VW GTi 1.8T manual, only mods are a forge intake pipe and 007 forge diverter valve, and an unknown chip in the ecu.

The car was boost surging originally, as in it would lose it then gain it back again repeatedly through the 2500-redline rpm range. Now the boost is non-existent.

I'm thinking a wastegate issue, or a problem in the ducting between the turbo and the intake. The ducting looks fine however, is there anything else I could check? No CEL either.

You may need to check every single ducting and clamp before you find it. A tear, loose hose, loose clamp can cause this.

This happened to me and it was a loose hose, the clamp wasn't on properly after some work was done.
