Default 1998 integra caliper piston....

Today I noticed a slight squeak on the Rear driver side. I looked at it and it seemed as if the brake was too tight. I took off the tire and the brakes and saw the caliper piston was still pushed out. I got the piston back in but when I push my brakes it comes out and does not retract.... Do I need a new caliper? I also checked the E brake cable and its not too tight. Thanks in advanced.

The piston is going to push out. That's how brakes work. The pad is going to sit against the disk lightly even when brake pressure isn't applied. Check and see how much brake pad is left. When it gets low, it squeaks to let you know you need to change them.

Yeh I know the piston comes out.... if not, NO BRAKES lol. I was asking about it NOT going back in after the brake was applied and released. It did not even retract. Would this indicate a messed up caliper piston?

After you apply brakes and it doesn't go back in, see if you can turn the brake disc. If you cant turn is by hand, get a wrench and put it in between the studs to use it as a lever. If it wont budge, then something is messed up.

You might have trapped air in the caliper, or a piston that is slightly corroded and is sticking. You can try lubricating the pistons; you should be able to find some caliper lube at your local parts store. I know Permatex makes some.

I tried lubing it. It didnt even want to go back in after the breaks were applied. I can manually turn the piston to put it back in but after that brake is applied it just stays out. @ The Guy, i can turn the disc brake but maybe not even half a turn of the tire each push, its not bringing the car to a complete stop but im sure its enough to waste some extra gas while traveling..... @Fabrik, how would I remove air? Drain Brake Fluid and Redo? If so, I did that as well. Starting too look like I need a new caliper lol.

I can't remember much about the self adjusting pistons on Hondas, there might be something really simple that's being overlooked here.

Bleed the brakes, don't drain the fluid. I'm not going to go into detail because there are thousands of writeups on the internet, and the procedure is the same for almost every car.

Does it look like there is any corrosion on the piston?

Does not look like there is any corrosion on the piston. I dont have much trouble manually rotating the piston back in. Let me google some more... Im sure someone has asked this question somewhere... just gotta search more.lol. Thanks for your quick responses and help so far

How hard is it to screw the piston back into the caliper? Should be relatively easy with little force. If it's really hard the caliper either needs to be rebuilt or replaced. I would go with replacing them.

Autozone ballpark price $50 + $50 core.

Edit: Give this a read.

The piston was relatively easy to put back in. Took ALOT of turns but was not really stuck or hard. So ive tried lubing it, bleed the brake and added new Bfluid, cleaned every thing, checked the ebrake line, and even changed the brakes. Anything else that would cause it to stick? It not like its locking up the brakes but its enough to feel a slight drag when taking off or letting off the gas.
