this is the deal, im driving my hatch which is single cam v at the moment and my car over heats and its cool as fuck outside and im doing bout 65-70 on the interstate.... well i go home and check out the damage and the radiator is steaming out the cap, so i let her cool of and come back to it a hour later, start my hatch and it over heats again but now i have no heat blowing threw my vents at all, im wondering if this is a water pump problem or thermostat or heater core??? immmmmm not deffinitly sure what it could be and i figured i would ask the nice people on drag for some info or suggestions before i blow a stack of money replacing parts i didnt need to, ima dohc guy and this scenario has never came my way so please help if you have any answers THANKS

 

Always start with the thermostat first since its the cheapest.

 

If you aren't gettin heat inside the car,then take the thermostat out and see if you get heat then.

If it was the heater core it would be spilling coolant into the interior of the car.

When water pumps go bad, normally they blow a seal and start leaking, so unless you have a visible leak somewhere, take out thermostat first, if its still overheating, radiator could be clogged or just super shitty.

i had the exact same problem... make sure to fill your radiator back up, i would say check to see if your water pump is leaking if so thats probably ur problem, if not start with ur thermostat because like everybody says its the cheapest lol

If you have no heat coming out, maybe you should put some coolant in and try again?

Wow the world never ceases to amaze me.

 

Not even because its the cheapest, its generally the most common thing to go wrong. If you still have overheating issues with no thermostat, then you start checking in order.

Obviously if theres any noticeable leaks, then that'd be your culprit. As well make sure you have a filled radiator to begin with. The internal and external condition of the radiator makes a huge condition as well.

If the inside has thick gunk inside, almost a brownish color, flush the radiator good. If there are any missing or bent fins or the radiator is rusted completely.


These are all things that can cause your engine to overheat.

 

ouch lol at least i was nice with the common sense "put some coolant in"

 

try this i had the same problem with my quad cam. get aq compression tester and chekc the engine. if 2 or more cylinders are below normal the culprit is the headgasket. thats what i found on mine front bank was 210 across the board and the rear bank was 130-140. i put in new gaskets and shes 210 across all 6

 

That's a completely different subject. Get the fuck out of here. And you can have shitty compression on a brand new headgasket if your rings are toast.
