Default Help on getting automotive jobs

Hi,
I've been working at a local lube shop in Virginia Beach for about a year now and its getting really old fast. I need a job that pays better than $7 an hour. The only thing is I dont want to be changing oil my whole life. I love cars, exspecially imports and I have a basic understanding about mechanics bu that seems to not be good enough anywhere. All the ads I see are for people with 2-3 years experience or ASE certafied. Does anyone that has been in my position have any tips? The money isnt the major thing I'm just really ready to learn more. I went to a place called Job Corps in Monroe virginia and took auto there. Honistly that class was the most fun i ever had in "school" cause every day i learned something new. Im ready for a change, so if anyone has any tips or suggestions please let me know.
Thanks

Um...I think you can apply at a dealership to be an apprentice and then move up to a lube tech then go farther if you want. I don't think you have to be ASE cert. for that but I'm not sure. But shit, Merchants over here according to my friend pays like $10 an hour starting out...If you already have experience thats good, go around and ask shops if they're hiring.
