Hooray, my tranny is going. Honda garage wants $3400. Anyone know of any good shops near Blacksburg to get reliable transmission work done for less? If anyone knows of any local junkyards either, I'd appreciate it.

Imo, get a junkyard tranny before you even THINK about buying a new one or getting it rebuilt..

what is the issue do you know?

A month after I bought my car Reverse went out, so I had some help from a guy on preludeonline forums and we replaced the sprocket/synchros for that gear..

It was pretty easy really, especially since it was at the top of the shaft

its an auto tranny so i'm not sure whether or not i would be up to the challenge lol.

when i pulled the CEL code the only thing in the Helms manual for the code was "Automatic Transaxle", so I'm still not convinced the entire tranny needs to be rebuilt/replaced. I'm going to try to get it to Amoco tomorrow and have them check it out too. It wouldn't be the first time a dealership tried to overcharge me on something.

if it is the whole tranny, I'm assuming that I can get one at a junkyard with <40k miles for around less than $500 but I've never called around for used trannies so I don't know.

you could def get an auto tranny from a junkyard for under that prolly..

search on google for the transmission you have and see if you can find common problems with it or somethin and maybe fixes..

what is it doing? engaging late? slipping like a mofo and rough? it might need adjusting..
