Reliable place to get AC recharged?

Buy a can with a gauge, read the instructions and do it yourself. The pressure on the low side needs to be between 25-40 psi with the car running and the AC on Max. Cost is around $20.

If your air conditioning has enough pressure to kick on the compressor, then it should be blowing the same temperature regardless of how hot it is outside and not be in need of a recharge.

if you do the can thing and it doesnt last at least the summer, get the lines checked, they can crack easy, and if thats the case, goodluck buddy.

if you actually want to find out what's wrong, recharge the system to the proper pressures (preferably a manifold gauge set, but that gauge-on-the-can is okay if you do it right.), and do this with a dye-impregnated can of refrigerant. then, after a few weeks, use the included light and goggles to look for leaks, and pray it's that easy.

...or you could buy a robinair 15600 vaccuum pump and manifold gauge set and do it the right way (replacing the reciever/dryer, seals, etc) and it'll be good as new. If it lost all the freon, recharging it will be a temp. solution at best. I figgured I'd bite the bullet and get all the equipment.
