well, I guess its time for my 2 cents...
From my research I've found that the sr block can definitely take alot more boost on stock internals, and will have much more aftermarket support, than the ca.
But the ca seems in itself to also be a very well constructed motor, with the iron block it seems to be able handle quite alot, although I have heard of the japanese guys having problems with it at high boost levels, with head bolts streching and blowing head gaskets. Maybe having to do with the different materials of the block and the head and thermal expansion? I'm not really sure... as I've never owned a ca powered car... YET!
In my opinion, all nissan motors are very well built and the choice of motor really comes down to personal preference...
-ca18-quick high revs, similar to a honda motor (only in revs, I'm sayin if you like the high revving ability of a honda, you'd probably like the ca)
-sr20-still high revs, dont rev it too high though or your rocker arms will fall off great aftermarket support and help if you ever experience a problem
-ka24-low torque, somewhat good for turbo with ALOT of modifications to the internals of the motor (most definitely pistons, those cast ones arent gonna cut it, maybe some cams to bring that low end to the middle of the powerband). I have seen the stock rods (shotpeened and cryo-treated) handle 400 hp on a different forum.
ok thats my 2 cents

gotta be biased and defend my baby some more lol
ive been researching for a while and have yet to see a non highmileage ca18det blow a hg due to boost levels...i mean u try to pull 350-400hp outta a stock old sr hg and its gonna go too (yes i know they can hold power stock i have a few friends doing it now) i mean basically waht im saying is if i was planning on runnin highboost (for big numbers) i wouldnt be using stock hg and studs

i have seen ALOT of oil pump related failures (including me lol)...oil cooling problems, stuff like that

well thats just not my cup of tea (v8) had a 67 cougar...302 bla bla bla...
but i have seen 1 and it was nasty, matter of fact there was an FUGLY lime green zenki s14 that had an ls1 in it...pretty mean just not what im looking for (or most 240 owners)...not to mention the extra work that would go into the swap...might as wel put a rb25/26 in if yer gonna be customizing..and still have similar power to a v8 (seeing as the rb26 puts down around 280 to the wheels on stock rwd setups-info taken from dynosheets on zilvia)

btt

A V8 in a S1x chassis wouldn't be a bad idea, but that's not really what the topic is about.

I think in the end, it will come down to personal preference, really. I prefer to make my daily driven power on a SR because it is easier/cheaper to find parts for it right now.
RB's are becoming more and more affordable, but I'm still concerned about the availability of replacement/aftermarket parts, too.

I'm sure you could, but why wait to have it shipped from jp when I can usually get it domestically next day?

And not all good things come to those who wait. Usually races are won by the person who has the least amount of patience to get to the finish line.

like i said depends on what part...light flywheels/cams/etc...stuff that most people who buy ca's never plan on buying anyway because from what ive seen since ive had mine and when i was researching be4 i bought it...its the same crowd that want to make 350hp on a ka w/ an ssac turbo kit...buncha cheap bastards lol

lol yea patience isnt really part of racing now is it lol
