It's great that you figured out something 2,000 1.8T VWVortex owners/browsers couldn't figure out.... There have been 100,000 BOV debates on VWvortex and the conclusion, every single time, is that the SSQ is the only BOV that really works efficiently on the 1.8T powerplant.
Steve? Where you at on this one?

to the original poster...
no one lieks to use the greddy type S because the car usually acts up if your still running your mass air flow meter...these cars are evry tempermental, some react to the Type-S and stall out after a few minutes of run time, then some wont react at all...
its just one of those freak deals....
now the reason why your car may stall out is because the type S is not a push/pull type bov...
meaning the popet style valve remains open at idle, and acts kind of like a massive vacuum leak... once you put the car under a load, the valve will close... until it recieves vacuum again...
alot of 1.8t guys like to run the hks SSQv because it remains closed at idle, and is a pretty stout valve that will never leak under boost...
the type S is known for slightly opeing when a good amount of boost is applied... anything in the neighborhood of 22-30psi.
now the type-S is an adjustable valve, so you can tighten her up a bit to help close the valve off slightly at idle... but its still leaking under idle...
its jusst enough to keep the ecu happy. and it will still leak at high boost levels.. its just a crappy valve...
keep your forge valve... and enjoy it.
bov's suck...
