all you guys are right that each situation is different, but i think its best to get the option of standing it up and running it off the road out of your head, if something like gravel or a deer does happen i think your instincts will take over and you'll stand it up to avoid it no matter what your told or think you should do, but for the other situations like being in a turn "too fast" i think its best to not even consider running off because i've never seen it turn out well

as for braking in turns, CBR600 is right you can 'late brake' to the apex, but i think thats an advanced skill left to someone with his experience, as a newbie i think braking in turns should still stay a no-no, straight up and down braking with some skill bikes stop damn good, but once you start leaning it you've got a tiny little contact patch to work with thats already using up part of his adhesion for the act of turning.... none of these are absolute rules, but guidelines that i think for the time being should be thought of as rules so you can stay riding long enough to be able to break them

yea thats another point, you could argue that running it off in a left hand turn wouldn't be as bad because you would'nt have to cross a lane of traffic to get off the road, but when your at that moment and panic strikes you, especially as a beginner, i really don't think anyone is going to make the differentiation between and left or right hand turn

 

Well yeah of course it will wash out of the road is sandy, it will do that at 5 mph if you hit it just right.

 

Yup, I was only thinking of a right handed turn for some reason..........I guess I'm always thinking worse case scenario.

I also agree that hitting the brakes in a turn might be too advanced for some.......but I'd rather try that and stand at least a chance of keeping it up vice dumping it for sure off the road.

EDIT: I think the "best" advice that can be given is to NEVER ride above your level............hell, for a beginner you should never ride AT your level (100%). Keep it safe and smooth out there and you'll improve over time just because of all the seat time you'll have under your belt!

Never try and prove anything to yourself or anyone else. True riding friends will understand this and never leave you behind.

 

Or hit a foot of water in the middle of road U can practice but when it comes to the real shit, u just go with it and hope u dont lay the shit down. U got a good bike, take care of her, it will strange not seein Mr6 on it and OBTW welcome to the cycle world
