My suggestion would be to find something cheaper.

Not to burst your bubble, but taking on a project of this magnitude will quickly depelete whatever funds you have. So unless you work out all the costs up before-hand I wouldn't even consider doing it. HighPSI TSi Guy's suggestion of getting a 1G AWD DSM was a good one. They're not that expensive and have decent performance with a few mods.

Now you see why Hondas are so popular, they're cheap -_-"

if you want to get a turbo colt and keep the 4g61, that could be cheap also.. or if you want to pay a little more to begin with and have a badass sleeper and make me envious, buy a galant Vr4 and build the shit out of it.. it's the same car as a 1G GSX, only it's a 4 door sedan, great for those troubled by insurance..

Galant VR4s are sweet too, and can be a total sleeper. There was one for sale a while back sitting on Oceana Blvd. All it really needed as far as looks go was a new hood.

theoretically couldent I just build up the 4g61 motor and throw on a lancer kit? it wouldent be the awd beast that people expect, but could potentally decent numbers be aquired?

i don't see why not but for the price of a 4g63 and you can use everything off of the 89 t why would you not want the extra .4 liters of displacement??

I own a 4th gen. mirage and that is the swap I was going to do until I went a different direction. It doesn't cost much for the engine swap because you can use a stock 1.8l mirage trannny up until mild mods. If you use the 1.8 tranny all you need to do is swap ecu's, weld 1 new engine mount, and do some fuel system work. the best mirage for this swap is 4th gen mainly 93-95, because the side te tranny is mounted on (if you ue stock tranny). on the newer moldes the tranny is o the driver side. here is a link for how to do the swap. http://www.boostaholic.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6
all you have to do is search this forum http://www.boostaholic.net/phpBB2/
to find a step by step with photos. If you want to do a original swap in the US why don't you go with the 1.6l mivec(mitsbishi vtec) engine swap. If you need any more help just PM me and I probally give you alot of helpn how to do it.
