Hey Toyota Techs (sw20 mr2)
what exactly are ya gonna do with this thing, and what are your truthful expectations? are you going to do all of the work yourself?
i'd look into a better intercooler after you've gotten all of the little maintenance things worked-out. all of the seals, and other miscellaneous things like the clutch that could and should be replaced add-up, you know?!?!? then, there's the 'standard' upgrades like braking/suspension (always first on MY list!) and drive-ability things like short shifters, better contact patches, etc.

Matt,
Auto-x, road courses, sex machine, every day car.
I wouldn't mind seeing the number ~260-300 (wishful thinking) once or twice.
To be honest, numbers at this point in time arn't that much of an importance to me. What I'm looking for is a MR2 done right. I think I'd be happy with the performance mods that I listed. I'm not trying to completely kill myself with to much power, ya know?
Tony and I guess Matt,
I plan on doing most of the work myself, yes. Well, with the help of a few friends and maybe get a faithful Toyota nerd to come out just for the joy of playing with Toyotas (yeah, right..).
I totally forgot about braking/suspension/clutch.
I think I should def worry about braking before I do all those performance mods... I def wanna be able to stop all that power when I need too.
1) Braking
2) Performance:
- ct20b
- clutch
- Intake
- Downpipe
- Fuel cut defencer
- Manual boost controler
- Remove muffler add straight pipe (gut cat)
- Water injection
- Intercooler upgrade
3) Drive Ability (not going into that yet, lets not get over my head)
Sound about right?
Gotta remember, I'm still somewhat of a rookie.
This is def going to be a learning experience for me, thats why I'm asking for all this help to make sure I do this the right way.

2nd gen 3s = 93+ (correct?)
So if I order that clip you think those brakes would do me justice? Uhh, doens't the st205 come stock on the 3rd gen 3s (mr2 version)... or is that just the alltrack? Maybe I'm confused on where that IC orginally comes from...

-correct, 2nd gen is 93+
-st205 is the 94-97 gt4. for some reason the mr2 had the air/air and the celica, which can get good airflow for an air/air, got the air water.
-93+ turbo did 60-0 in 106ft(?). i cant remember the exact number, but it was around there.

Alright, thats what I was thinking with that IC (alltrack = gt4). So you say thats a good TMIC intercooler? .. and that would work properly for my setup? I'll have to look into those a little further.
I might just edit those braks a little bit...

Jestible, have you looked around the MR2 board, using the search function and checked out the FAQs?
It seems you have done a great deal of homework already, so that's good.
I'm a big 3rd Gen motor fan, and the parts are more available than most people think. Jay Marks Toyota (now Champion Toyota) stocks most of the parts needed for maintenance, from timing belts to shims (under bucket shims).
250-275whp on the completely stock ECU and fuel setup with proper intercooling is very reliable, trouble free, and makes for a VERY fun car.
This can be had with a straightforward 3rd gen swap with intake, exhaust, and IC. The CT20B IS the factory 3rd gen turbo. The 3rd gen ECU gets along with our fuel better than most people think, as the japanese fuel is closer to 94 octane than what their published numbers are. (Japan, and most other countries use a different octane rating system than we do.
This setup would be good for a high 12 low 13 sec 1/4 mile with the proper driver, good at autox, and let me know if you need some tips on how best to utilize the MR2 as a sex machine. You have to pretty much "get it on" in the passenger seat, with you kneeling on the floorboard, and her in the seat.
Good luck, and let me know if you need someone to do the swap, with whatever generation motor you go with.
