They did once. A completely stock 85 4 cyl ran a 49.7, so they banned them forever and struck it from the record.

Ok, I have owned all drivetrain types. FWD, RWD, AWD & MR. I am an avid fan of AWD, as my current prize possesion is my little AWD turbo Impulse. Good in bad weather & great for acceleration. Also a fun drift car. Handling is great, yet not the best.

In my opinion, my MR2 (midrear car) handled better than any other car I owned. Drifting this thing was like driving on melted cheese! My Impulse is like to too but after the front wheels break traction. Also, lauching the MR2 was dam near as good as my AWD car.

RWD cars are obviously great for drifting as well. It takes a certain type of driver to run all out on a back road with a RWD car & yes I am one of those drivers. Be careful though in bad weather. You better have some top of the line rubber hitting the pavement!

Now for FWD....I am not a hater of these cars, but I will say that even chicks (novice ones) can make these cars go fast on most back roads. They do well in bad weather also with good tires. Drag racing....they are the worst of drag racing. Not that FWD cars are slow, but due to being pulled down the track this is their weak area. Don't think they are good for drifting either Not to mention that whole one wheel spinning (obviously unless you modify the tranny) thing when trying to lauch while drag racing.

Those are my feelings about the different drivetrains out there. I miss my supercharged MR2 terribly. Got totalled when some dude in a station wagon tried to keep up with me on a hairpin turn & flipped his car...into & dam near on top of my MR2. I still have my AWD rocket & love her to death! I own 2 RWD trucks so I still get to drive RWD vehicles too just need the powerful C-10 (heavily modded 350) to have a posi rear & probably like 4:11s in the rear.

TC.

You are right Chris@SCAutos. FWD are still at a disadvantage though as far as performance. They are easy to manuver though...

hey now...lets not be so harsh to the general population of AWD...the opinions made by that person(s) doesnt reflect AWD owners as a whole......

Yeah it does look silly IMO when you rip the e-brake going through turns. It's not worth it to me to wear out the rear brakes and flat-spotting the tires.

I'm a RWD fan and always will be, and I'm not hating on FWD cars so don't be hating me for my opinions. We all have our own opinions and there's nothing we can do about it. It's not like I'm gonna start a movement and destroy the FWD cars one by one or anything.

There are rednecks and huge V8 motors and lift kits and people that hate them.

There are people who like drag racing and people who hate them.

There are people who like motorcycles and people who hate them.

Its just a part of life.

I just wanted to know what you guys like and state your opinions.

Wow, this thread is a huge collection of gross generalizations and oversimplifications with no real info.

All 3 types of drivetrains have their own driving styles based on the physics and dynamics involved, and to make blanket statements that any of the drivetrain types are better/worse or easier/harder to drive is naive. This is all completely dependent on a particular car, and its weight distribution, power output, suspension geometry, torque curve, etc. There are brilliant cars of all drivetrain types, and absolute crap cars in all drivetrain types too. How can you judge anything so concretely with no concrete truths about any of the drivetrain types?
