If it is already titled as rebuilt salvage, you should not have to have a rebuild inspection done. Yes, it is different than a VA safety inspection.

Is it currently in your name as a rebuild from MD or is it from the previous owner?

I still need to register it in my name in VA. So currently the title is in the previous owners name, titled as I posted before in MD. How much time is normally allowed to register a "new to you" car in your name once purchased?

You need to at least title it as soon as possible to minimize the implications of owning a vehicle not in your name.

I've had this bike in my storage for some time now and finally decided to pull it out and start messing wiht it but i didnt want to do anything yet without a title. I stopped by the DMV to apply(?) for one and was told i need to bring in a registration or get the previous owner to provide one. If that guy doesn't have one to try ging down the chain of owners until i find someone with one. I got the bike off craigslist in the free section a few years ago and dont have any contact info form the person i got it off of. My question is: without a title already or registration, how can i get one for this thing? I know theres a way to apply for a lost title or something but without registration how do i go about doing this?

I found this:
http://www.dmv.virginia.gov/webdoc/c...eplacement.asp
but it requires a registration in order to get a title.

Could go the "abandoned vehicle" route.

Hi, I recently got a car in Florida, and have yet to be able to transfer it to VA without any hassle.
I went to the DMV in Roanoke, and they told me I have to go to Richmond? Is this a common thing, to go to Richmond to get a car transfer?

Or I could send in the title and some paperwork, I didn't feel like driving to Richmond, so I sent in the paper work and title. How long do you think it will be? My tags expired and I'm getting really fed up, it would have been easier to change my license to FL and register there.

Anyone else have trouble transferring a vehicle from another state to VA?

What was their reason for having to go to Richmond? Something is not adding up, FL titles transfer easily to VA.

Honestly, I have no idea. The lady in the DMV just said "I'm sorry we can't do that here, you have to go to Richmond or send the paperwork to Richmond." then she handed me the forms and I was like "Why do I have to go to Richmond?", "Because we don't transfer here".

SO I'm assuming the DMV here doesn't have to ability to do it, but I don't understand why not?
This is taking way tooo long and I have nothing to drive...
I sent the forms in weeks ago, probably like a month+ now.

What form #? Unless there was a lien or something it should have been a VSA 17a and thats it.

I don't know the form number as I've already sent the stuff in. There is no lien on the vehicle, the only thing is on the title it has my name and my dads name, which they told us in order to transfer it that couldn't have two names so now it's just mine... And it has a rebuilt title from being "totaled" when it was new... But I don 't think that matters...
