1-series looks too cute... I remember reading an article about the design when they were fist coming out. The designer was talking about how the car had the biggest headlights of any BMW to give it big eyes and make it cuter.... car looks like a japanamation character to me.... fine car for a girl or a late 20s mid 30s woman, but not for a guy.

For my money, 335 would be the only option.
Exactly, the 135i is only 90lbs lighter than the 335 according to Wiki. The big pre-launch draw of the 1-series for me was a light-weight, tossable daily-driver but for the small price difference there really wasn't enough to make it worth-while. If you really want a light, tossable car get an older model; if you want a sporty DD, get a 335i.

At least that's how it came down to me.

You can quickly shave another 50lbs by taking the ballast out of the rear bumper. Just change the suspension first.

We saw a really nice 135 on the highway headed to Norfolk the other day. I thought "nice car" and then saw this dude who kinda looked like Joe (Ritz) driving it. Seeing a big dude in that car made me realize just how much of a chick car it is. He really looked out of place in it.

I can't believe you guys think that's a Chick car. To me, it has the closest thing to a tuetonic look of any of the cars currently made by BMW.

Only on Thursday nights when working Ocean View.

To me, the only current production cars that look they come out of Germany are the Porsche 911, the BMW 1, the Mercedes C, and, it pains me to say this, the Mercedes GLK (and of course G).

BMW 1 missed the mark... it was supposed to be light and small like the older 3-series... instead it's a little piggie.

The weight does suck, I'll give you that, but the 3 series coupe is 190lbs more, and there is that dead weight in the bumper (not sure why I can't find anything about this online, but it was in Roundel) that you should be able to ditch when you change the suspension.

It is dumb as hell that BMW would put a car out with a suspension that doesn't work for it though.

I don't see that at all. The 1 series looks like a squished and cartooned version of a 3 series. It's even bubblier than anything else they have. I think the concept of the 1 series was spot on, but the execution was way off.
