Now it's time for Supra internals and a T61.

Even Danny and Gavin are parting with their cars. haha
only a 61? 67's work great on them if you have the mods to match them.

Yes, only a 61.

Andrew said he wanted street-ability this go around, he's not looking for something stupid fast.

A 61 on a 2JZ will smack the shit out of most the car around here. On race gas that turbo is good for 550-600whp easy.

And it wouldn't have too much lag at all.

Oh god, it would at least be a hta 67! I have to at least upgrade past the Talon. That turbo was considered streetable to me on the 2.3L haha, let alone the straight 6 - 3.0 liter. My 60mm on the 2.3L was around 4200 / 20psi in 3rd. I'd imagine the 3.0 would spool that by 3500. The gt37 / pte6776rs would prob be around 4k I would imagine. Wait micah, isn't your dads poopra a 67mm? How's spool with his?

If the car received a new engine / drivetrain, I'd do it all at once instead of gradually like the talon . The problem with these cars is the weak tranny. Even my stock motor will do 450whp-500whp easy but the tranny is shit at those levels. The only real option is a r154 mkIII 5speed swap or the 6spd V160 TT supra which is bank $$$.

It's GGP (Graphite Gray Pearl) and it is a rare color from what I've seen. Especially considering it's a 5speed with lsd. It's insane that I found a 5speed locally. I've been searching for 3 months and haven't found anything closer than 160 miles. This one popped up on craigslist in Roanoke so I checked it out.

Btw these cars weigh 3250lbs stock, which is one reason why I chose it over a sc300 / gs300 / NA supra.

Will do Chris. Glad to hear the house is going great for ya!

Frankie had a 5spd one at one time, it was a nice car.

One of the guys that works at TurboTrix has a stock supra gut/t67 is. I don't know what he ended up making, but he wanted a fun street car, nothing dramatic, as well.

I know what you mean, but seriously do you need even 600whp? All that can be achieved with a T61, and that turbo would spool pretty quick.

Yes the Supra has a T67DBB but to me, it's still laggy. Boost is around 3500-4000 but maybe i'm just used to the small twin turbo type spool of my S4s. I detest lag... I just don't see the point to running a huge turbo on a car meant to be driven on the street, its just not even fun on turns or cruises. So much unusable power.

I'm telling you a 61 or 67 would be plenty. I know the 67s on a 2JZ will put down around 700whp...So what more do you need?

I guess it depends on what you're going for, but if I were to go with a turbo IS, i'd make sure it was still fun, and not overboard. There's a difference between tons of power and usable/streetable power.

Comparing the s4's spool response isn't fair!! No wonder you consider 4k laggy. 4k full spool and 700whp capable is a fair trade off in my book. My talon was never really laggy feeling to me either, I just re-learned how to keep the revs right and boost came on instantly, no down low power though. At the "700whp" power level though, the supporting mods will be substantial and the car will probably be on AEM or equivalent tuning, large cams, dual fuel pumps, etc etc.

You are right though, I want to keep the car very driveable/streetable and not take away from it's luxuries. SRT racing (swift racing technologies) are pretty well known for building fast IS's. I might give them a call and see what their take would be on a 500whp pump gas car and see what negatives might come with it.

I thought about keeping all the turbo stuff all the talon, and moving it over to an Is300 but it was impossible to find one nearby so I figured parting it was the best idea. Had I of kept a good portion of the universal stuff, I wouldn't have to buy much.

Anyways, theres another thread for all that.

My talon should be back together within a week or two.

I agree, the whole lag issue is really overrated for most cars, and thats coming from a guy who for years spent his efforts trying to get the quickest spool possible. My turbo spools slower than my other previous ones, but I would honestly say that I make more power earlier than I ever did.

If that statement is the truth. I can recall numerous times the phrase went something like "I want to keep the spool time as low as possible and make this car the ultimate street car"..... now look at you. I think you finally realized that even though you may spool a few hundred RPM slower, that extra CFM will completely make up for it. Just my opinion.

I feel absolutely zero difference between the HTA 35R that I'm running and my old 3052. The 3052 reached 20psi by 3680, but the HTA 35R even at lower boost (it is boosting at 3680 just not fully), feels faster. I reach 20psi by 4150 now, a tad bit less than 500rpm slower, and yet the car is entirely different. I completely admit that I was wrong in my way of thinking, something that took me years to realize.

Brian, don't forget me if you end up parting out the car!
