I'm willing to bet that Mustang didn't cut off anybody. He probably checked, saw the spot was clear, and began to merge. I wouldn't expect a car 3 lanes away to come into any spot I'm merging into either.
Also, I've had people cut me off. I didn't go 50 ft in either direction down a hill either. I simply pressed the brake, because I was going to speed limit, and had control of my car.

Enjoy your stay. I'm sure it will be short. Why are the new guys getting more ridiculous? I keep hearing the old members saying it, but never paid any mind to it. Now...it's all i notice. It's like seein the arrow between the e and X on the Fedex trucks (look at the logo, its all you will ever see again.)
