NEWSFLASH: domestic gets warned about illegal exhaust!
I've found that being courteous and owning up to what you were doing are the two best things when it comes to getting a warning. It's eather that or be a dick and deny... and that doesn't get you very far.
Like I said in another thread, I am all ways 100% polite when I get pulled over. I engage in intelligent convos with cops and I admit when I am wrong and never argue. In the end I ALWAYS GET THE TICKET. Hell I had just got back from Iraq and had an expired inspection ticket and didn't realize it. I explained the situation to the cop and he was still a dick and I am not saying this b/c he gave me a ticket but it was b/c of the attitude he had. My experiences with cops have been shitty.
It's been my experience that, especially in Virginia Beach, being courteous as a minority driving an import will only keep your from getting your car searched, but it certainly won't get you out of a ticket.
That's why I don't drive like an ass...especially in VB.

no reg, inspection, insurance, dident have my license on me, no seatbelt, no headlights or exhaust.
I was issued 7 tickets
When I went to court, the officer told the judge that I had owned up ot everything as soon has he walked up to my window, even a few things he did not know about. The judge laughed when I told him i was just working on the car, and dismissed everything.
It pays in the end
I've never had that problem, but I would say that there is not uniform enforcement of the laws between imports and domestics, cars and motorcycles and between minorities and non-minorities.
I was on my way to MIR for Imports vs Domestics and I saw a cop in the median and looked down and I was doing 15 over and I instantly started to slow down and pull over onto the shoulder. The cop pulls up behind me after I stop and walks up to me and starts talking down to me like I am some runaway slave or something. I thought to myself "I pulled over before you turned on your lights and I am being polite as shit and owning up to my mistake and this jerk off is still being an idiot"
So the court day comes. I show up in my Alphas looking sexy and all and I sit in the court room through 10+ cases of people making up stupid excuses and some people getting away with the shit that they have done. I walk up when it was my turn, stand at a modified parade rest and own up to my mistake in a polite manner. The judge asks me about the military and deployments and then out of no where he was like "ok I find you guilty for blah blah blah and you can go pay your fine of "x" amount over there" I was like you have got to be kidding me.

I think the main thing, though, is what Brian said about being courteous.
