The conspiracy theorists on the Corvetteforum who are stuck on 3k becuase it's "cheap insurance" love to say that the OEMs do this because they have a "planned obscelence" motive. They're trying to make you damage your motor so that you have to pay for more repairs

 

Fuck it... why not just quit changing it all together!

 

Many diesel semi truck do just that... they have special filtering systems that get serviced periodically and they top off the oil.

 

I do the truck about ever 5k miles. When I drove the car everyday, I changed it with Mobil 1 oil/filter every 2500-3000 miles. I just felt it was cheap insurance to keep an expensive motor happy. Since November when I bought the truck, I've only changed the oil in the Cobra once with Royal Purple. I've only put ~200 miles a month on it since then.

 

My car=fully synthetic and a new filter every 3000. no reason not to.
