depending on what else is in your rig, a 350W minimal is fine for this card.

i know it's a trade off but how much faster is the 8600

yes, because this is GDDR3 memory, and 620 MHz clock speed and a 1600 MHz memory clock speed, compared too the 8500's 450 mhz clock speed and 800 memory clock speed.
