Question Off Road Racing in VA?

I'm wondering, since I might be getting a Jeep Cherokee, is there anywhere I can race it? I'm not talking Mud Bogs (not out of the question, though) but something like the autocrossing and time trials I will be doing in the BMW, but on a dirt course. Is there such an option?

SCCA actually has a rally cross club in this area. I believe they have a yahoo group.

Looks like it's mostly for cars, but I sent an email to their technical director. If they won't allow me to play in a Jeep in RallyX, then I think it's time to create RallyX for Jeeps, Trucks, and SUVs that will start a ladder system towards off road truck racing like CORR, SCORE, and the many others that exist.

because of rules, and lawyers.... unless you have a (insert racing associat here) approved roll cage, you will not be allowed to 'race' your jeep.

sorry

Actually, the DC Region SCCA Rally-X doesn't seem to mind Jeeps and other 4WD trucks and SUVs. I also didn't mean "wheel-to-wheel" racing, but stuff like Auto-X, Rally-X, and NASA Mid-Atlantic's CircuitCross where it's one at a time, racing for time. I want to see something that will get the ball rolling for off road racing enthusiasts and amateurs to get into more professional off road racing just as Auto- and Rally-X have.

I stand corrected. Years ago someone asked that question, and that was the response gotten from all known agencies... I'm glad to see it open to 4x4s though I am worried about the rollcage issue

Email a guy named Rob Bergstrom... http://www.hrm-usa.com/About_Us.html

He may have some ideas about other places you can play with your Jeep in the ways you mentioned.

Hope it helps,

Jon

Yeah, still working on trying to get the Jeep, but since I had to be moved to another team at work, I can't get any overtime. My old team leader let me get overtime, but my new team leader won't. And, on top of that, filling my dad's truck is costing me a fortune, again. <sighs> Can't wait to get the E30 running again. I actually saved money driving it with a broke intake rocker and bad piston rings.
