Shoe Creek is cool because the top end of the trail head is Crabtree Meadows, which is the most popular place to camp in the forest. Hell, there is a parking lot, a latrine and you can hike down to the falls. Just be careful on the falls it is a long way down.

Never been to the falls, but I know the parking lot and the latrine very well. I think I ate some bad bacon, hahaha. Damn, I really want to go back to Slick Rock/Shoe Creek now.

Well, it is the last half of August, so it is just about time for a GWNF run. We have even considered Dry River, (mud). I dont know if I will camp, but Dry River is a good place for camping.

NovaJeepers are going at the end of this month on a trail ride. I believe the 26th. I think I may attend that ride. They are running flagpole and then if they don't run dry run trail, I'll probably do that one to.

Here is a link to Beltwayjeepers.com. It should be a fun run at the end of the month.

It looks like we are going to do the Stoney Run trail the first or second Saturday in June. Stoney Run is from Sherando Lake to Bald Knob on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is about a three hour trip. Passable with stock junk, but a little modification make the trail more fun. If it rains there may even be a little bit of mud.

If anybody is interested post up.

Looks like we will be going on Saturday June 6. We will be driving up 64 west. We will be day tripping. There are several good rough camping spots on the trail. The best one is at the end of the trail, close to the pavement, Crabtree Meadows is close. It is a bit popular. It is also the trailhead for Shoe Creek Trail.
