Ya, I saw a guy in a big ass Bronco stuck a few weekends ago. I have never had to let any air out of my tires before. In any of my 4x4 vehicles on the beach. I did have to lock my rear diff once. But that was in some crazy soft granular sand.

If you have narrow tires just let some air out just in case and you will be fine. Those santa fe's are probably really light i'd imagine. Seen lots of vehicles like that just walk along.

On stock narrow tires, I'd say let some air out to get a wider footprint. Keep your speed up at all times, kinda wiggle the wheels side to side a bit as you go to spread out your footprint and keep above the sand, not digging straight down in a line. Also, just follow the tracks from other trucks, which is already compacted a bit from their weight earlier and just drive in them. You'll be fine, if you're worried, when you get space go down to the water side where it's hard sand and cruise there. I took my Durango, with no air out of tires on 33's though, but AWD, I didn't get 4 hi/lo at all and I drove fine. So if you're truck is basically AWD you should be good. The 2 guys with me had a 03 Tahoe and 05 Silverado, both on 33's as well, but going 2WD, they didn't bother to lock in to 4wd and they were fine.

Normally light vehicles do fine... we used to down to OBX and go fishing in college often. One of my roomates had a lifted bronco w/ big tires, one had a dakota quad cab 4x4, and another had a Honda Passport.... the passport could go everywhere the other 2 trucks could... it was light and didn't dig in as bad.

Can someone explain the difference between AWD and 4WD? I know there's a difference but don't know what it is.

AWD is when all of the wheels drive. 4WD is when only 4 of them drive.

Listen here son! You did not know, that is why you asked the question. I obviously knew and now you don't like my answer? With all my years of street racing and running from the cops, I have become an automotive expert. You should feel lucky I am even answering such a difficult question free of charge.
