You know you're dealing with a fairfax county rookie cop when...
You're IN your car being asked a bunch of questions, and as the cop is going back to his cruiser to try and get a search warrant on your car, he demands that you "Take a SEAT!"
I still can't believe what I heard. I never thought I'd hear something like that outside of Super Troopers or a Saturday Night Live skit.
Without going into much detail, he later threatened to press charges on me for trespassing in the park, when all I had done was pull into the park's PARKING LOT!
This was after numerous profane accusations that I was there to do drugs. Mind you, I was polite the entire time, never once got snotty or fresh.
Finally he asked to search the car.
I didn't give him consent to search the vehicle since A) I don't like the idea of giving up privacy for convenience B) It's a known fact that should you ever to go court for something they may find in your car, you will ALWAYS stand a better chance if you had not given them consent and make them go through getting a warrant C) The car isn't mine. D) I WANTED him to TRY and get a search warrant, because I knew he wouldn't be able to. Even if he had, under some miracle from god been able to get one, it would have been great to see his confident face fill with disappointment when he finds nothing.
As expected, he couldn't get a search warrant.
He came back frustrated, but still sure I was there to do drugs.
Let me tell you, it was a great sight on his face when he asked what my father did and I told him "He works for the DEA. Oh, and he's a lawyer for them, too." His two worst fears becoming a reality. Not only was it obvious that I wasn't some kid who does all sorts of drugs, but that any bullshit charge he might try to throw at me would get laughed out of the courtroom. Not to mention, if I wanted to, I'm sure I could file a complaint over the way he handled the situation.
Obviously, he decided NOT to charge me, and I drove away tonight with a smile on my face thinking about how great it is to know your rights, and especially to have a good family background.
