Default VA/DC/MD Housing

I've got some questions for you NOVA locals that I was hoping someone may be able to help me with.

To keep it short, I was offered a position in Arlington (Crystal City area) last month. I will not start until mid January, so I've got some time. I currently live in FL and am hoping to move up there toward the end of the year. I'm looking to buy a place, most likely a condo or a townhouse. My budget is $225,000. I'm looking for suggestions on places to look. Since I live in FL right now, I'll only be up there a few times before I move and I've only visited the DC area briefly before so I'm unfamiliar with much of the area. I'm open to various bed/bath options. I would prefer a 2 bed/1 bath, but am still open to a 1 bed/1 bath. No studio's. Preferably, the place would be located within a short walking distance to the metro. I will have a car with me, but whether I drive or take the metro really depends on where I live I suppose. I am not necessarily looking to live IN Arlington. I've actually found quite a few places that look nice in Falls Church. I'd also prefer to not live in/near the "ghetto." Besides the previously listed requirements, I'm fairly open.

I've been scouring real estate pages days in and days out for weeks now and have a general idea of where to look and what I'm looking for. I'm just seeking any additional suggestions on places you may have lived, have friends that live, where to avoid, etc.

Thanks for any responses.

Look inside the beltway. You can find condo's for around that price.

Are you out of your mind? I have never seen a townhouse or condo for anywhere close to that price inside the beltway. Heck, newish townhouses in Dale City are running $400k

He might be able to get an old trashy one, or one in a high-rise for $225k.
