I'd recommend checking a board specific to your car make/model...a generic trans rebuild is never a good thing, unless its your junk beater.

Cottman builds some good reliable transmissions.

Make sure you get whatever any trans shop claims to do in writing, there are a lot of places that will screw you.

Don't go to Cottmans thats missed up my friends 2000 golf. Had it for 2 weeks and kept saying everything was old and that his tranny was bad and needed a new one. Then when he got one and sent it to them they said they had to take it out then. Lies after lies. When he got it back they put the lankage in wrong and used chicken wire to tie the shifter to the linkage because it was an inch apart then when he took it back they said the wire missed the lankage up and made him pay for the lankage even tho it was their fault. I would never take anything to them. Go to the tranny shop next to Noyan in Manassas. They do good work.

Which cottmans did you take it too?

They seem to build fine transmissions that hold up to 10s and 11s passes for domestic cars. 1.6-1.4 60fts no problem.

Honestly though, I've heard more horror stories about rebulit trannies than used/JDM trannies...I would just go to NoyanUSA and pick one up if they have one for your car, or order online. They have like 90 day warranties. I have a JDM motor from "JDMexchange.com" that has ran great for like 4000 miles.

About cottmans...they did a clutch/flywheel/2 axle job for me for like 1100 bucks, pretty reasonable pricing and I've driven over 2000 miles on it and have had no problems. This is the one on 606 West/Old Ox Rd. Kewl thing is they check your car to see whats wrong with it for no charge

Fixing a tranny on a 00 Golf is about the hardest thing to do, since A) There are about 13 different Engines / Tranny's that are put in, B) Most Shops outside of VW dont know the difference between a 2.0 and a 1.8t

Yea see I can understand that. But they made him buy a new one they didn't rebuild it. Then the lied about it around being tooking out when they said he needed a new one, when they didn't take it out until his new one was at the shop. So it could have not even needed a new one they didn't know. But besides that how hard is it to put in shift linkage? Forget that even if he was new how hard is it to see that there was a inch gap from the shifter and the linkage you have to know something not right then. But who chicken wires linkage together factory no one so you can't say that it belonged there.
