Traffic Today
Fucking sucked.
I was at Redshift (dulles/chantilly) around 2:30-3ish. It was all I could do to get back to central fairfax county. Once I finally made my way to 66, it was stopped going west for a good distance. They also shut down 28 South for a while.
FYI to those who didn't know... They had the funeral and procession of the police officer today. Traffic is bad enough now, what happens in a few years when they shut down highways for a funeral?- I don't want to find out.

I was on 66 heading back to MD at around 7pm and it was backed up going East, but then that was because there was a wreck at 123. It's better that they shut down the road because that funeral procession attracted a few THOUSAND people. The shutdown of the highways makes it safer for all those involved and all other motorists who were going about normal circumstances.
And all the police cars and fire trucks doing what they did is what all police and fire departments do when one of their own falls in the line of duty, or dies of other more typical causes. They also do this when a member's mother/father, wife (or husband if the wife is the FD/PD member), or child dies.
At the very least during normal circumstances, the firehouse or police precinct shift that the person works with attends the funeral and rides in the convoy in official vehicles with lights flashing and everything. In more tragic cases like this the entire department and then some take part in such matters.
I know this because I come from a family of cops and firefighters, and I have had the unfortunate experience of riding in such convoys.

How about PWC police and the Loudoun County Sheriffs doing traffic enforcement on 28 in Chantilly? I know they borrowed officers from other jurisdictions to cover at the Sully district station so the officers could take off for the funeral. I was driving down 28 today around 12 today and they were lined up at the 28/50 doing radar and handing out speeding tickets.
God forbid if for one day FFX Co. didn't have enough officers for traffic enforcement.

since im MIT for dominos on saturdays and sundays, my drivers had a hard time getting aorund because people were taking 29 as the alternate route for 66 because of the funeral procession or whatever it was for the officer that was killed.
