I was hopping they would pass the cell phone/car law. Just use a damn ear piece you know! At Least!

You guys are hilarious...

I really don't think you people have a clue about the magnitude of the problems you have. This area is one big SUBURB. Yes, suburbs containing some of the most well funded county school systems, and highest median incomes in the country.

Yes, there are tons of cops running radar in the area and in Virginia in general. This is the traffic state. Deal with it simple as that. Don't drive like a complete moron. Just be happy the officers aren't setting up stings and impouding cars by the hundreds.

MS-13? Please... Go to New York, they are the bitch gang of the boroughs. I must admit it's getting worse up there, but still. They are like a little fish in a big pond. The problem seems bad down here because well there is NO crime. When you think about it, that's why cops have nothing better to do. That is what you get when you have some of the best paying jobs, and school systems in the country.

Immigrants? You forget our country was and IS built on them. Your parents were immigrants at one point, mine were also. Do they exploit the system? Probably, but that's what makes our country great. I bet you don't know how many send money back to their homeland for their family to come? My family immigrated from Italy in the 50s and my grandfather did just that. Yes, we can't have an area full of white yuppy Starbuck drinking BMW driving fakers. Seems like that's what you'll are hoping for.

Traffic? I must admit it's bad around here, but do me a favor. Get a map out and find some major throughways in the area other than the Beltway. 66? Maybe. 50, 28, FFX? You call those major car movers? An area that makes a vehicle a necessity does not have the roads to accomodate and the public transporation system is mediocre at best. This isn't LA, NYC, SF with 6 laners backed up EACH way for hours. Spare me.

Drivers? You guys couldn't drive if your life depended on it. Snow or rain? Forget about it, game over. They really need a cell phone law here, and something called lane discipline. Most of my encounters in the area are idiots not paying attention, not trying to purposely do anything. Go to some other CITIES and you'll get a rude awakening about aggressive driving.

Just remember you could have it a lot worse elsewhere. If anything this area is full of whiney, spoiled little bitches. Grab a tissue and a tampon. Flame on prags because that's all you're good for...

I agree with most of what you're saying, but the problem is not immigrants (shit I just became a citizen a couple weeks ago), but ILLEGAL immigrants.

lol, I'm sure many of these people realize they can have it worse elsewhere, but they live HERE, so anything that goes on in this area affects them, which is why they are complaining.

I can say the same to you. Don't fucking complain about all this shit unless you go to a third world country and experience tough living.

I thought I did a good job explaining that but somehow random23va missed it and called me a racist. It must be hard for him to do his reading comprension homework with 50 people packed in that million dollar house.

p.s. random23va .. there is one thing you missed in your free U.S. provided education. Indian's are predominantly hindu. And hindu's have been fighting muslim terrorists LONG before 9/11.

Im from New york I know this but it doesn't mean people in VA don't have the right to complain. No one wants there city to go to shit. If they want to drink starbucks and drive around in bmw's thats fine, they have the right not to have to worry about getting robbed by some punk kids or gangs. people need to stop worring about other states and fix this one. people who talk about how other states are much worse completely missed the point of this tread.

illegal immagration is a big problem, and needs to be fixed. like some else said it's not the fact that they are migrating to the US it's the fact that they are doing it illegally, and give nothing back to this country but crappy kids that F everything up with gangs, thieft and violence.

thank you

Having lived in socal I also commuted in socal. Here are some of my observations on their traffic congestion v.s. ours.

Driving:
Californians are better drivers. Especially in conjested areas. It's not because there is something magic in the water they steal from Arizona, it's just because they are used to it. In California, you can have a pack of cars traveling at 75-85mph who are VERY close to one another. The people there are better at driving in packs at speed. Here you get a ticket for "aggressive driving" there, it's normal. (who know's, maybe we could learn to do it here if the speed laws werent so dated)

In virginia 76mph gets you a court date. In California 76mph gets you the bird because you are not going fast enough.

One example of something that proves my point is the dulles toll road and 495/95 into maryland. Have you noticed that on the dulles toll road or 495 into MD that if there is ANY curve AT ALL in the road the cars around you are drifting into the other lanes? The people here are just not conditioned to driving alert, at speed.

Another example is concrete barriers. In california nice wide emergency pull off lanes just dont exist. The main freeways have had those emergency pull off's converted into lanes years ago. It's not uncommon for you to be in the fast lane, doing 80 and have the concrete barrier 15 inches from your door.

I've noticed in Virginia if they are doing roadwork that requires one of those barriers (route 28) that the people freak out, slow WAY down, and try to get out of that lane.
It drives me mad!!! Take your balls out of your girl's purse and learn how to control your god damn car.

Another problem in VA i've noticed is it takes WAY too long to do any road work. The fact that 66 wasnt widened years ago is a complete joke/amobination. In california when road work is commisioned they work on it ALL NIGHT and EVERY night until it's done. Two things probably contribute to that, 1.) better weather 2.) more practice in running road construction jobs.

The "mixing" bowl ain't shit compared to some of the over/under passess ive seen in Atlanta and California.

It took california 4 years to connect the 215 freeway from Rialto to San Dimas. 30 miles of freeway (with on/off ramps) 6 lanes, 4 years.

ive lived in the same house all my life....what ive noticed the last few years was....EVERY SINGLE open lot, is being torn down and having houses or stores being built on them...i remember, for those of you who live in the baileys xroads area, when the best buy used to be a HOT SHOPPES, and the shopping centre across the street with safeway was NOTHING....

...and the whole gang and car theft thing is just plain stupid....i hate it. I actually feel safer having my car in Richmond than I do back home.

Having actually driven in Atlanta and Northern California (Silicon Valley/San Fran/Bay Area) I can agree with you on that. Californians make interchanges look like a form of art. Atlanta interchanges are only elaborate if two interstates are coming together, otherwise its fairly simplistic.
