Manual trannys give the driver more control over operating the vehicle as everyone here knows. Whether or not this is a good thing depends on the driver, conditions, etc. I am aware that you can still downshift and upshift manually if you choose with auto trannys, however I have always found it easier and more natural to do it with a manual transmission. I honestly don't think auto trannys could handle someone treating them like a manual transmission all the time as well. I've known a few people who have busted an automatic tranny for treating it like a manual when driving on a constant basis.

But this debate and my opinion is pointless because the SVT branch of Ford is barely alive. The SVT Cobra based on the new Mustang design is the only thing SVT has going on. The SVT Focus got killed off because their target buyers (people our age) can't afford the insurance on an SVT. The SVT Lightning got killed off by Ford for business reasons (which I thought was dumb, the Lightning concept was badass and probably would have sold much much better then the SRT-10 currently does). Rumors with questionable accuracy say it will be three years before the Lightning has the chance of making a comeback.
You are correct in that you have to be able to drive to pull off good times with a manual in any truck with that much power. The srt 10 is capable of low 13s but if you see one at the track I bet he is probably runin a lot higher. You are correct in saying that stock lightnings shift smoothly too. A stock lightning shifts a little to smooth but that can be corrected pretty easily. A tune can set your shift points, so theres really no need to run it thru the gears manually. I think svt will make a strong comeback in the future, but as for a lightning making a comeback in 3 years.......it aint gonna happen. I agree that is a dumb decision but not all bad, at least it will help my resale in the short term.

It will be dog ass slow because by the time the tires grab traction the race will be over. If you can't get traction, having the most powerful thing out there is pointless because the power will never get applied to a beneficial effect until traction is achieved.

That's why you don't just mash the pedal to the ground. You feather the pedal.

Well, if your buddy thinks that an absolutly stock truck that can do 0-60 in 5.3s, a 1/4 mile in 14.0 seconds @ 102mph, turn out a .90g on the skidpad all while topping the scales at about 5400lbs is slow he's got to be driving a ferrari or something similar.

the lightnings transmissions are the the ones used in there "heavy duty" series trucks.

i had a friend w. a lightning about a year ago that dynoed at like 460whp and over 500trq, he never had any probs. w. his tranny.

As for the lightning comming back, it aint. The new SVT truck will be the Sport Trac Adrenalin w. a 6 spd automatic all wheel drive transmission. and the motor from the current svt mustang, that puts out 390/390.

14.0 for 500 hp is what's retarded. what a fucking waste of gasoline and effort just to drive the shit. 500hp and 102 mph DO NOT belong in the same sentence. fuckin junk is all i have to say.

Well, it is a truck you know, not a fucking sports car.

Wait a second, it's not a Civic, so everyone on this stupidass site hates it.
