My question to the police is: Why not charge the towing company with receiving stolen property if they did not return the car?

For all anyone knows someone who works there could have stole it. I would get an attorney and pursue that crap.

With so many people winning BS civil cases, I think you have a legitimate case and should fry these clowns. Go after the tow company and the police for not "protecting and serving" you as a civilian who was a victim of a crime that cost you thousands. In these times of financial hardships they should have not allowed another burden to be placed on you.

newsflash! all towing companies work like this, you get charged for towing, and you get charged for every day the car sits on their lot. same thing will happen if your car breaks down on the side of the road and you have to leave it and it ends up towed.

how is he going to fry these clowns at the towing service again? its a job we all hate but its their job and they were just doing it.

its like someone returning your lost wallet with no money in it. sure, they might have taken your money, but how do you suppose you are going to prove it?

I suppose its up to the OP whether its worth the money to pursue such accusations.....

Wouldn't surprise me if the car theivery is connected to towing. Perfect cover-up if you think about it. yank the car, take it to tow lot. strip the car, when cops show up and ask how you got the car.. tell em you just picked it up illegally parked.

And yea, tow truck driver is probably one of the most powerful positions anyone can be in without a security clearance. You can fuck anyone, anywhere, any time, and get away free.

Well depending on the insurance and type of coverage, i have heard of the insurance companies reimbursing the owner for the impound fee.

However, it does sound kind of odd that the towing company would have had the car for that number of days without realizing that the car is stolen, aren't they supposed to alert the police or the owner of the vehicle, or at least run the motherfucking VIN to see if it was reported stolen?

....for $450 I know they didn't have it in their lot for only 1 day.

^^^ like he said, perhaps towing companies should have to report VIN's of vehicles they tow to the police.

That's bit of a stretch with the little info the OP provided dont you think?

As far as PW County is concerned...they tell the towing companies how much $$ to charge for vehicles that the police have towed. But with the little info that the OP provided...I don't know if the police had it towed there or the police found it there.

Back in 2006 my friends motorcycle was stolen. We filed the report and the police called us two days later telling us it was in a tow yard. Come to find out that the motorcycle was crashed 2-3 hours after it was stolen and towed soon there after. I'm not sure what the procedures are for stolen/towed vehicles, but with our situation it seems that it could've been handled a little better.

well in regards to the towing company, they can charge what ever they want that is their right and i don't have much of a case against them. the police are the ones who called the towing company and had them tow the car as the PG PD do not have their own towing vehicles or impound but the po po have nothing to do with how much to charge. though yeah the ripped me off and charged me another 3 days when they wouldn't let me get the car on tuesday... but what ever that towing company has now been totally cut off from montgomery and PG counties and their contract revoked for the way they treated me, my mother, and the police. so needless to say they will be going out of business soon enough.

as for the car i'm still not sure if i'm going to sell it. i do want to first make sure everything is ok and works properly before i make any decisions. the last thing i wanna do is sell something that is blown up to someone. that just isn't me. if i do sell it i would prefer to sell the whole car but i may consider parting it out, we'll have to see. first i need an ECU to test the engine and i gotta rewire the part of the harness those hacks cut. i'm going to run compression tests and all on it too. i'll let you guys know.

I watched a towing company on my street last Thursday do a quick pass by of the car then come back 5 minutes later. Within 30 seconds they had the car hooked up and were driving away. I would have thought it was shady at first but they had your standard truck covered in their business name and telephone numbers.
