I thought it was common knowledge.

The picture of the broken slips, he slid sideways into a curb at high speed. No shock that they broke.
Pretty sure I've read the back story on those other ones as well on H-T. Something about the original owner used them as track only rims for a few seasons, then sold them with the caveat that they should be inspected before use, as they have had stress fractures from R-Compound use and hitting curbs on the track. New owner didn't inspect them, there were visable cracks, and the result you see there was after another season and a half of racing. Duh.
Point is, there's almost always a back story to those pictures, and you can find pictures like that for just about any popular rim. I have SSR's on my civic, and I know for a fact I can got find a failure picture of them. Doesn't mean they're junk, just means someone was probably doing something stupid.

Dude I didn't post the thread about rotas those were just pics. Products are cheap for a reason. You pay for quality hands down. I am not hating on them, but the company makes cheap rip offs of Works and other rims that PUT engineering into the wheel.
I have heard TONS of horror stories about rotas.

I used to have a set, so did a friend. We lived in the same area where the largest potholes and the worst patches in Virginia reside. From my experience they were pretty damn strong. After a over a year they were still as good as new. I personally don't know of anybody that has had problems with them other then curb rash and they were at fault. But that doesn't mean there hasn't been problems so don't label me bias or anything.
rota's hold up just fine. I live in the d.c. area, some of the best paved roads ever
and every set i've owned, well they've all held up. And the copies sure as hell don't look that bad. My boy has the Mugen mf 10's and my drag copy(not rota, but another knock off company) look just like his real ones and for a fraction of the cost.
Anyway, good deal on getting a some wheels and exhaust. Is your car a turbo car, cause a 3" thermal is gonna kill you're power if it's not forced induction.
