I mean, thats on par with all the high end RD's -- it is the company's flagship.

If you want shitty protection, get a shitty detector. I will say that there are some moderatly cheaper options out there that have done well acording to various reviews, but why save 50 bucks on something subpar, when you got a detector in the first place to save you $2000 from a wreckless ticket.

Radar uses electro magnetic waves to seek out a group of cars in a certain point. Kinda like sonar. The only flaw about radar is that radar only reads one object at a time and is attracted to the largest object. For ex. a truck will have a better chance in being read than a motorcycle. There isn't much diffrence between a SUV and car.

I hope this helps you understand it a bit more. knowledge is power, power than can save your life.
Some of the newer radars can distinguish between strongest and fastest targets. No more hiding behind big truck anymore. Laser is becomming the norm since it is difficult to use radar effectively in heavy traffic. Given the narrow beam of laser(about 3-4' at 1000ft, compared to 200' or so for radar), it basically renders radar detectors useless. Fortunately, laser can only be used when stationary.

really though on the bands?
when I had my radar, I picked up laser ALL the time on 28, but it was usually Ka on 66 with state troopers. Other than that, I got some fairfax cops that had K or X, and a shitload of cvs's and eckerds that liked to radar me for some reason (joke for the idiots that can sense sarcasm)

I've only picked up a laser signal once.

On the topic of cops having radar detector detectors, someone told me that XM radio emit the same signals as our radar detectors. So cops using their radar detector detectors against us are almost useless for them. Does anybody know if this is true.

X band is not used in the DC metro area. Most likely its not even used in VA...........possibly in some small town in Southern VA. FFX Co. only uses KA, but laser is becomming more common. State police are almost all KA too.

About XM radios setting off the spectre RDD, I've heard that too but I think it was only at a distance of a few feet. Now there is an XM radio that looks just like a radar detector though.

FFX Co uses laser all up and down 28, they've been out alot lately too.

My Cobra displays an S band alert. But its a safety warning. Like the crosswalks at Walmarts in MD will make it go off, or if a Balto County Ambulance passes it will go off.
