How far is Richmond from Fairfax?
Good timing is going about 80/85mph. Don't go over that, especially in the left lane. Last weekend, I came up 95, there were new unmarked state cops in every cut across. Leave early...arrive alive.

stay out of the left lane...dont even pass in the left if you can saty out of it...
just keep an eye out when you're on the road and usually most groups of cars are doing decent speed anyway (80ish) so you won't get pulled over if you're in a group. (Hasn't happened to me at least.) I average at least 80, sometimes 90 if I'm in a hurry. I drive that route (I95 to I295 to I64) pretty much every other week and have never been pulled over for speeding. *knock on wood*
