GMU Students.. question
I'm getting 2 associate degrees from NOVA.. and NOVA has a deal where if you graduate with at least a 2.5 you are guaranteed admission to George mason.. and that's around where my GPA is (slacked off in my earlier years of college).. I just need 1 class and I'll have two associate degrees.. one in general studies and one in science. my question is.. when you're a mason student and declare your major.. i heard some majors you have to GET ACCEPTED into that major? Is this true? Like my grades aren't THAT great.. I mean I'll get into Mason.. but if I wanted to major in a science like biology or chemistry.. would I apply to declare my major.. and risk the chance of not becoming a biology or chemistry major? I know for the Nursing School and Business School you have to APPLY into that school to declare your major.. and you run the risk of not getting accepted.. is it for ALL majors.. or just those 2 schools. thanks everyone. just trying to figure out shit in my life

No, only some schools like the school or buisness or nursing you have to apply to get in. I'm fairly sure you'll be fine as some sort of science major, but to be safe I would get in contact with the department head or an advisor asap.

You will get into Mason except you will be considered a "Pre-BS" status since you want to pursue a Business degree yet have not gotten approved by SOM. You have to take all the 301 level Business classes before applying to SOM to finish off your schooling and get a degree.
I imagine that the same setup applies to the other schools that have a GPA requirement....as in you have to take all the major-related "Intro" classes before being able to apply to the school to finish off your schooling.

actually i'm doing chemistry or biology now. i'm about to get out of NOVA in the fall with TWO associate degrees. One in General Studies and one in Science.. I asked around.. I heard that if you're a science major you don't have to get 'accepted' into that major.. just Nursing and Business because they have separate schools that you must meet the requirements and certain GPA to get accepted
