Boxing
there is one located in old town alexandria that teaches boxing/kickboxing (rec center but excellent instructors), there is also a great kickboxing gym off vandorn near bj's call american karate inst. and a great mma school in woodbridge called trident academy (they teach muay tai, jeet kun-do, arnise (sp?,filipino stick fighting), ground fighting, ect). i know the last 2 aren't boxing but its always nice to be well rounded. besides aki (second one) teaches amet. style boxing as part of the kickboxing. they even had a few of the guys enter golden gloves and win as well as having excellent amet. kickboxing records. abc boxing is also a good gym, we've used their ring from time to time when training for fights.
Where exactly you located ?? I've been taking muay thai for the last 3 years or so now. From experience thai boxing is better. I use to fight american style kickboxing and not nearly as aggressive as thai box.
Let mw know if you need any help with school. I am an low level MMA fighter and train 6 days a week and been to about every striking and BJJ gym there is.
The ultimate solution i found after training since i was 14 is :
Take muay thai 2 days a week monday and friday. (you will be sore for two days leave comp time) vale tudo on thursday, BJJ tuesday. wednesday cardio and weights do at least do a10 x 10 circuit with 60% effort.
(gym) 4-5 miles on track, in 6 months you will gain 10 pounds and kick some ass.

Just curious you don't meet many people that fight in organized events here.

i'm not in a formal training class but i still get together with some of the fellas and we practice our mma, especially takedowns and ground fighting. most of them are bouncers so they like to keep on top of their skills.
i wouldn't say that thai boxing is alot more aggressive that american rules but can be more damaging with the elbows and knees. plus the most of the agression comes from the person more so than the art. you can teach a not so agressive person thai boxing and they will know the art but probably would never have the aggresion it takes to have a winning record in the ring.
do you have an ameteur record yet? i was 4-1-1 in my 4 years in the ring. i've been considering getting back into it at trident, not sure though.
edit* btw h22, i see in your sig that you have a ze in the rolla and you want to go 20v, why? drop the sc and go turbo or are you gonna do the turbo ze with the 20v head?

Yea my NKA rec is 12-3-1, mma 5-1. Yea i think the vicousness of the attacks as far as american to thai is what makes the difference.
I totally agree with you as far as agression. I see alot of people train they don't have the intestinal fortitude to be a good fighter. Agression and ring control is mainly the points in the ring anyways. I sit at 6'2" 185-187 on a average day with a full stomach but fight at 170 as a welter. So i have a considerable advan most times. Yea i got total with all arts a combined 15 years in now. 5 Black belt, blue belt from the gracie acadmy ect ect. Thai boxing is the best shit i found so far though. I'm hoping to start my own school in the coming of years.
nice record and being a 6'2" welter weight, i'd say you have a great advantage over others. thats is the weight i use to fight except i'm only 5'10" but i was use to fighting bigger guys in ther gym and that helped come fight time. i also have an mma record of 2-1. i did an mma event in hawaii and they did it as a ladder type event, one round, no time limit, you win you go to the next round. they had huge weight divisions, my division was from 175-200lbs (i weighed 180 at the time and weighed less than everyone else in the division). i made it to the finals but i was way to exhausted to fight smart and let myself get in an arm bar, so i had to tap.
if you do open your own school that would be cool, good luck with it. let me know maybe i'll come check it out. i thought about doing that but after checking into it i realized it wasn't for me.
turbo 20v, nice. i've got 2 88 ze mr2's (1 5spd,1 a/t) and i'm considering turboing 1 of them. the 5 spd has a '92-'94 jdm ze with a hks pulley, a zex 55 wet shot and a few more goodies. i'm still getting it together, just replaced the us motor with jdm motor. the a/t has a usdm motor and just an hks pulley, it also needs under carriage and body work, basiclly its my daily. and then there is my money pit 1g gsx. like you said, too many projects not enough time.
