Why even think of it? there is no purpose for it. you cannot go and have a broken one rebuilt for cheaper then u can go and buy one.. now i can see having certain alternators rebuilt.. like if u had an RB... or if u had a 150 amp alternator.. then yes it would be worth gettin rebuilt. but if its for a DSM, go to Advanced Autoparts, Autozone, Pep Boys and buy it for 100$ comes with a lifetime warranty no questions asked.

all that is involved in an alternator rebuild is replacing the brushes, we did it on my uncles truck in like an hour, from start to finish cost like $20 for the brushes.

Not true, sometimes the Voltage regulator$$ can go bad, diodes..., bearings...

all that is $$
