STERLING, Va. - A reported suspicious vehicle and several scrape marks on Sterling roads led to the discovery of an auto chop shop, 22 pounds of marijuana and 1,000 pills of ecstasy.
Two men are being held without bond on drug and larceny charges, Loudoun County Sheriff's spokesman Kraig Troxell said.
On Jan. 3, a resident waved down a Sheriff’s deputy in the area of Meadowland Lane and Sugarland Run Drive in Sterling to report a suspicious vehicle. The car, a red 1994 Honda Civic, was found to be stolen from Prince George's County, Md. It had been stripped of its hood, headlights, front bumper, doors and other parts.
A deputy on the scene saw gouge marks in the pavement and followed them back to Biscayne Court. More markings in the road led to a residence on Wrightwood Place.
Deputies searched the home Jan. 4 and found more than $30,000 in stolen car parts including seats, engines, doors, stereo equipment, tools and chrome wheels. Two cars also were seized. Also found in the home were numerous 4- to 6-pound bricks of marijuana and 1,000 hits of ecstasy. The estimated street value of the drugs is more than $25,000.
Two men were charged in the case: Candray Jose Roberto Alvayero, 26, of Sterling, and Andres Antonio Romero Cruz, 24, of Hyattsville, Md. Both men are charged with possession of stolen goods and grand larceny. Alvayero has an additional charge of distribution of narcotics. They are both being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center without bond.
Sheriff’s investigators are working to determine if a second vehicle recovered on River Meadows Terrace and Palisade Parkway on Thursday is related to this case. The vehicle was found with all four tires missing and reported stolen from the area of Semblance Drive in Sterling earlier the same day.
